Raiding Expectations

We are here to have fun and down bosses.  So that we are all starting from the same point, here are a few expectations:

  • Be online, on the right toon and ready for an invite 10 ish min prior to the posted time.  Posted run times are start killing time.
  • Have mumble installed and be logged into mumble at invite time.
  • Be paying attention during fight explanation, it is wasted time for everyone to have to repeat instructions due to in-attention.  Going to be AFK after the raid group is formed, please notify the RL or post in raid.
  • Know the boss mechanics (read eg. icy-veins / watch videos vox on youtube for eg.).  We don't want to spend valuable raid time explaining raid mechanics.  Strats is a different story. we'll cover these for each fight.
  • BYO*, potions, flasks.  Food is usually provided.
  • You should have some addons, one of DBM, VEM, and/or BigWigs.  Other strongly recommended addons are GTFO, Tell Me When, WeakAuras and class-specific addons to aid your game.  Ask in game or check our forums for more suggestions.
  • Though raids will be flexible in size in WoD, this does not mean we will just bring anyone along on a run.  We raid "progression", hence need a group of regular raiders (bringing someone "along" that is under geared is a tax on the rest of the team, the fights are tuned to the number of people in the raid).  Once raids get going (typically later in an expansion/patch) we often have a second run for people that can't raid regularly (think of it as an alt run for regular raiders).
  • Brezs, please do not just rez someone just because they died during a fight.  There are a limited number of brezs per fight, they need to be used strategically.  Most of the time the RL will call for a brez.  A tank dieing though would likely be an immediate brez.  A dps during trash, NOT so much!
  • We do keep logs and post them on world of logs (maybe warcraftlogs as well soon).  Please do NOT, in general, post numbers in raid or guild.  I won't say "never" here but posting of numbers should be rare.
  • Many of us have raided for a while now.  Producing "numbers" is important for DPS and somewhat for Heals.  However, there often are many other things that need to be done during a fight that are less obvious.  E.g. using damage reduction when needed (and NOT just for tanks), interrupting or using cooldowns at the right times (not just when they are off CD).  There often is a difference between doing what's best to down the boss and what's best for your numbers.  We greatly prefer the prior, we raid to down bosses.  Another e.g, casting tranquility at a time to just up your numbers vs casting it when it is NEEDED to keep people alive are sometimes different things.
  • While we do have formal loot rules (below), each drop should be discussed ala an informal loot council.
  • Loot Drop Considerations (not exhaustive): What item(s) do you have in that slot?  How many other tier pieces do you have?  How many items have you won?  Leaving loot completely to randomness via rolls is inefficient.  Be considerate, we prefer to avoid implementing something like DKP.  We also need a happy medium for the fill-in toon that comes rarely, to not take the weapon/trinket/tier that very rarely drops but also should have a chance at loot since they are in the raid.
  • If a piece of loot is a much bigger upgrade (purposely vague) for another "regular" raider, consider letting them have it.  Goal here is to optimize gear for the raid overall and hence progress.

Loot Rules - incase we need written loot rules (pre WoD version) Goal is almost always raid progression balanced with fairness.  We do edit these as needed usually with group approval.  For the most part Ph* and Suds don't do things unilaterally.

  • Main Spec
    • Number of wins
  • Off Spec
    • Number of wins
  • Tier tokens
    • Main spec, some emphasis on … does the win results in set bonus (but not guarantee the first winner to get the second drop i.e. someone does not "necessarily" get two pieces while another still has zero)
    • Off spec
  • BOEs follow rules above but are to bound immediately, no selling them!  We prefer to give out BOEs than sell them with the main consequence being no guild repairs.
  • Orbs, Legendary parts, DE mats (other procedures for these will be discussed as needed)
  • <<For historical purposes, in the past we used>> Suicide Kings for Trinkets in RS, rewarded attendance, avoided hoarding, required book keeping.

GBank gold:

  • typically used to purchase: patterns and mats to craft gear (to help raid progression), cauldrons (flasks), and feasts.  So far gbank gold has never been used for repairs due to the guild not selling BOEs as mentioned above.  Several times we have done the analysis and determined there was not enough gbank income to sustain gbank repairs without selling BOEs.  There was a very large, one time, influx of gold from Rikzo passing.  So there currently is a large buffer of gold in the gbank.  We will discuss how best to use in the future to help raid progression.

The following article is excellent regarding being a good raider LINK

I debated waiting for the next raid to say the below vs getting something out promptly.  Since you are here, obviously I choose the later.

Let me apologize for the attitude last Fri night.  I was feeling overwhelmed and did not handle it well.

Please realize Fri was only the 3rd night for some of us being together for progression raiding .  We still have to get to know each other in such a situation.  We do have a few requests to put out to the group.  Please reduce the typing in /raid while someone else is explaining something, this is very distracting.  We need to cut down on the disappearing between fights.  We know RL stuff comes up but it is the accumulation of many doing it once that gets overwhelming ( or worse the same person doing it often ).

We are doing progression raiding, we are going to have to discuss things (I am NOT trying to discourage that) but try to pick appropriate times and places for things.  There are usually 15 - 20 people in the raid which results in LOTs of stuff going on, though it may not be obvious.  Reiterating the progression raiding, we are gonna die on bosses, there may be a night with 10+ deaths to a given boss.  If that could be an issue, lets discuss it during non raid time (the gbank can be used to alleviate cost issues) but this is OUR definition of progression raiding, we're gonna die.  Lets use the guild forums more.  If you find interesting nuggets please post them there.  I leave the guild web page open all the time at home ( one problem for me is I cannot even access guild site at work).  I hope all of you will check there often too.

In the future, I will be more prepared for boss fights (as I usually have been in the past).  This was part of the problem the other night, I was not up to snuff on rogue specifics for each boss and I felt ambushed.

Kara (Ph) admits she needs to learn to be better at handling some things too, she felt overwhelmed as well and did not step in.

We have a large group, largest we have had in years.  We'll (Ph and I) do our best to change a few things but we are also asking you guys to help too.  We have a great group of people!  Some agree, see Deadly's quote on bottom of front page.

Sincerely,

David (Suds)

I plan to only leave this post up for a short time.
